The Highland girls and Columbus boys basketball teams seek season sweeps tonight when the Huskies and Wildcats clash in their second doubleheader of the season on the KCII3 Stream.

The Columbus girls enter tonight 5-7 overall, 5-6 in the Superconference North after breaking a two-game skid Tuesday with a win at Hillcrest 47-32. Kennedy Woepking notched a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. This year, the ‘Cats score 43 points per game and give up 46, shooting 27% from the field, 22% from three and 51% at the line. The Wildcats own Superconference North top fives in field goal and three point shooting, as well as rebounds, assists and steals per game. Woepking paces all on the team with 11 points and seven boards per game.

Highland returns to action winners of 12 straight since falling in game one of the season, leading the north division standings at 10-0. Their last game was a win one week ago at rival Hillcrest 52-20. Katelyn Thomann led the way with 13 points. This season, Highland scores 56 points per game and gives up 31, shooting a hot 40% from the field, 25% from deep and 54% at the line. The squad pulls down the fourth most rebounds in the state at 43 per game, and are top five in Class 1A in assists and steals per game. Individually, Kamryn Fink is fourth in 1A with five-and-a-half steals per game, and is the Superconference North leader in rebounds and blocks per night. The Huskies lead the all-time series with Columbus 24-7 dating back to 2007 in the Varsity Bound era.

The Columbus boys fell to 6-5 overall Tuesday after a loss at Hillcrest Academy. The ‘Cats were outscored 44-19 in the first eight minutes of each half. This season, the Wildcats score 56 points per game and give up 59, shooting 36% from the floor, 30% from deep and 60% at the stripe. Aside from their three point shooting and scoring output per game, they are also top five in the north with over two blocks an outing. Columbus has been led on the season by junior Ellis Hills-Carrier at 22 points per game, the second most in the north division.

The Huskie boys also fell in their most recent contest at Hillcrest 72-34 one week ago. Landon Roling led Highland with 12 points. This year, the Huskies score 47 points per game, and give up 68. They shoot 38% from the floor, 32% from three, the best in the division, and 61% at the line. Highland is led by Roling in a breakout junior year, scoring a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds a night. The Huskies own a 23-11 series lead over Columbus since 2008, with the Wildcats having taken eight straight.
