The Washington Fire Department hosted its annual Pancake Day, welcoming a large crowd for a day of community, tradition, and support.
The event, held during both lunch and dinner sessions served as a fundraiser for the department’s ongoing training and equipment needs. This year’s turnout included a total of 2,300 meals served. Feeding a crowd of that size required a logistical effort from the Washington firefighters, who worked tirelessly to prepare 6,600 eggs, 3,200 pounds of sausage, 37 gallons of chocolate milk, 48 gallons of white milk, 360 boxes of pancake mix, and 180 bottles of syrup.
The funds raised during Pancake Day are dedicated to the department’s training programs and the maintenance of essential equipment. The nature of firefighting is demanding, and gear often sustains damage during emergency calls. The event has become a staple for local families, sometimes even influencing travel plans. One Washington resident shared that his son, who was visiting for the holidays, chose to extend his stay specifically to attend the meal. Last year’s event saw 2,200 in attendance.
