
The Keota Eagles will take flight on a long road trip southwest to battle Moulton-Udell in a midweek non-conference set on KCII Thursday. The Eagle boys enter the evening with an 8-3 overall record and 6-3 mark in conference, riding a five game winning streak after beating Iowa Valley 69-48 in Keota Tuesday. For the year, the Eagles score 59 points per game and give up 49 on 40% shooting, 28% from three and 53% at the line with 33 rebounds, 17 assists, 10 steals and 11 turnovers per game. Individually, Jackson Vittetoe scores 16 points per night to lead. Ayden Galindo has eight rebounds per game, and Chase Haifley five assists and two steals.
Moulton-Udell is 3-7 on the year and 2-4 in the Bluegrass conference. Last time out they were beaten by Moravia 66-24. On the year the Eagles score 47 points and give up 56 per night on 32% shooting, 24% from deep and 54% at the line with 31 rebounds, eight steals, seven assists and 19 turnovers per game. Individual leaders are Cameron Swarts with 16 points and two steals per night, Colton Campbell with nine rebounds and Landon Brinegar with two assists per game. This week, Eagle head boys coach Dan Stout talked with KCII Sports about his team’s play during their win streak and keys to Thursday. “One of the biggest things for us is our overall team defense. We’ve tried to control guys. On offense, we’re sharing the ball well. We’re picking up a lot of assists. We know where guys are going to be when they are cutting to the basket. Our rebounding is getting better, our guards are going down inside and helping Ayden (Galindo) and Jackson (Vittetoe) rebound.”
Keota won this boys contest last year 78-27.
The Keota girls are 10-3 overall and 6-3 in conference, winners of four straight. Keota clamped down on Iowa Valley Tuesday 50-13. This year, the Eagles score 53 points per game and give up 40 per night, shooting 35% from the floor, 28% from three and 58% at the line with 32 rebounds, 12 steals, 10 assists and 18 turnovers per game. Individually, Cameron Haifley has a team best 16 points, three steals and two assists per game. Jessalyn Aller has seven boards per night.
Moulton-Udell is 3-6, 2-3 in the Bluegrass conference after a Tuesday 54-19 loss to Moravia. This year the Eagles score 32 points per game and give up 46 on 26% shooting from the floor and three and 37% at the line. Individually, Madison Barber leads with 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals per night. This week, Eagle head coach Jeff Sprouse joined KCII Sports to talk about the matchup. “I’m very happy with how we are getting off to good starts in the first quarter and we want to continue that. We need to be consistent with that and set the tone. This group is making the extra pass. We have also improved our defensive communication.”
Keota has won the two all-time meetings between the schools 55-13 and 50-33.
