Fairfield Police Chief David Thomas passed away unexpectedly and on Monday DCI was notified.

On Tuesday, the City of Fairfield announced the death of the current police chief. Thomas’s death is currently under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and local authorities. According to DCI there is no indication of foul play at this time. DCI was requested by both the Fairfield Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the investigation. 

Thomas served as the Chief of Police since 2014. According to the Fairfield Police Department, city officials are “working with state and local partners to ensure the transition of leadership and public safety services.”
