Respiratory illnesses continue to be elevated in Washington County. Washington County Hospital and Clinics provides a weekly respiratory illness snapshot for the community and influenza cases have remained elevated.

This week, influenza activity remains very high, while strep cases are high in our area. COVID and RSV are both at moderate levels.

According to the Iowa Department ofHealth and Human Services, as of January 3rd, Iowa has had 14 flu deaths so far this season, and 38 COVID-19 deaths.

With flu activity continuing to be elevated, the Centers for Disease Control advises people should take precautions to help protect themselves and others by washing hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if you’re feeling unwell. If symptoms develop, early testing and care can make a difference.
