The Washington Demon girls basketball team will look to break a two-game losing streak tonight when they hit the road to face West Liberty, in a girls-only contest you can hear on KCII.

Washington is coming off of a 55-47 loss to Burlington in Southeast Conference play on Friday, dropping the Demons to 6-4 for the season and 3-2 in the conference. Tonight’s game against West Liberty is a non-conference game, giving Washington a chance to get back into form before facing 1st place Keokuk this Friday.

The Comets are 2-8, and are 0-5 in a very top heavy River Valley Conference. The team lost 74-55 to Mid-Prairie on Friday. West Liberty scoring leaders include sophomore Kylee Daufeldt, who averages 15.9 points per game, and junior Sullivan Hall, who averages 10.3. Daufeldt also leads the team in rebounds and steals per game. The Comets average only 41.7 points per game, and have been outscored by an average of 12 points this season.

Washington head coach Colin Mulford says the current losing streak doesn’t mean much, as long the team can earn a few wins to make up that lost ground, “Before break, we started 2-0, and then had two losses, and then we rattled four off in a row. So hopefully, hopefully we’re going to do the same. We lost to Marion, we lost to Burlington, hopefully we start to make a run with some more wins.”

Tonight’s game can be heard on FM106.1, the KCII1 app, and kciiradio.com. Pregame will start at 6:30 p.m. with tip-off at 7.
