The Washington Demons found themselves swept for the first time since December 5th on Friday, with both teams falling to Burlington. The girls lost 55-47, while the boys dropped one 66-56.
Both Demons teams fell just a bit short in their bid to claim second place in the Southeast Conference. Girls head coach Colin Mulford says despite the loss, he was proud of the team’s resilience in a comeback effort, “They’re not going to be done until pretty much that last second’s over with, which I’m really proud of, we battled. Some teams, when another team goes on a run, they’re just kinda just gonna fold, and that’s not what these girls do, they just want to battle back and play together.”
Boys head coach Collin Stark says they’ll look for what they need to improve on from this game, but they’ll need to move on to the next game, “You’re constantly looking at, you know, what we can do better, and it’s just little detail stuff. But soon as that 24 hours is done and we’ve gotta be ready to move on, and we’ve still got a lot of season left. This is our third loss, 7-3, you know. We’ve still got a lot to play for. We’ve got another tough game against Keokuk and then we start getting into the 2-3 games a week and it’ll fly by, and hopefully we get on a roll here.
Adalyn Long led the girls with 24 points, over half the team’s scoring. Rajan Roth led the boys with 15 points, but Drew Conrad, Kael Williams, and Nic Stone all reached double-digits as well. The Washington boys fall to 7-3, 3-2 in the conference, while the girls fall to 6-4, also 3-2 in conference. Washington will come together for conference play against next Friday on the road at Keokuk, but the girls will first make a quick trip to West Liberty for a Monday contest. You can listen to that game on FM106.1, the KCII1 app, and kciiradio.com. Pregame will start at 6:30 p.m. with tip-off at 7.
