The WACO boys and girls basketball teams took on two different opponents Thursday, and got two different results, with the girls knocking off Holy Trinity Catholic 34-24 and the boys losing to North Linn, 56-49.

In the girls game, the Warriors could only muster a single point in the first quarter, but kept themselves in it by limiting the Crusaders to just six points themselves. A much better second quarter helped WACO take a 13-9 halftime lead.

The scoring woes returned in the third quarter, but again WACO forced Holy Trinity Catholic to struggle alongside them, leading to a 4-3 quarter and a 16-13 lead. The final quarter saw both teams come close to doubling their totals, but the Warriors pulled away for the 34-24 win. WACO improves to 4-6, and have won each of their last three games.

Like the WACO girls before them, the WACO boys did not have a good start in their contest against the Lynx of North Linn. Unfortunately, the defense also didn’t quite hold up, with the Warriors falling behind 19-0 after the first.

From there, it was all about making a comeback, but the Warriors ultimately dug themselves a hole they couldn’t quite dig themselves out of. Despite outscoring the Lynx 37-22 over the next two quarters, North Linn were able to steady themselves to take a 56-49 victory. The WACO boys drop to 6-4, but still sit strong in SEISC-North at 3-1.

Both WACO teams will face off against New London on Saturday. Neither Tiger team has won a game this season, both sitting at 0-9.
