
It’s a Saturday showcase for southeast Iowa basketball at Keota today when the Eagles entertain the Hillcrest Academy Ravens in a doubleheader on KCII. The Keota boys are 6-3 on the year, 5-3 in the South Iowa Cedar League, after a 70-48 Friday win at BGM. This year, the Eagles score 58 points per game and give up 49, shooting 38% from the floor, 24% from three and 53% at the line with 29 rebounds, 14 assists, 10 steals and nine turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Jackson Vittetoe with 16 points and eight rebounds per game. Chase Haifley averages four assists and three steals per night.
The Hillcrest Academy boys are unbeaten at 10-0 and 9-0 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference after running through Highland Friday 72-34. The Ravens score 65 points per game this year and give up 45 while shooting 47% from the floor, 35% from three and 58% at the line, with 29 rebounds, 15 assists, 11 steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individual leaders are Kale Bailey with 19 points and eight rebounds per night. Rowan Miller averages seven assists and four steals per game. These teams have split their last four meetings with the Ravens beating the Eagles twice last year 61-50 and 68-52.
In the girls contest, Keota comes in at 8-3 overall and 5-3 in the SICL after a win over BGM in Brooklyn Friday 55-34. This year the Eagles score 52 points per night and give up 44 on 34% shooting, 27% from three and 60% at the line with 31 rebounds, 12 steals, nine assists and 17 turnovers per game. Top Eagles are Cameron Haifley with 16 points, three steals and two assists per game. Jessalyn Aller has a team best seven rebounds per night.
The Raven girls are 3-8 on the year and 1-8 in conference after dropping their sixth in a row Friday in Kalona to Highland 52-20. This season, Hillcrest scores 38 per game and gives up 48 on 33% shooting 27% from three and 35% at the line with 31 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals and 27 turnovers per game. Individually, Claire Withrow paces the Ravens at 12 points per night, Niva Helmuth grabs nine boards and three steals per game and Brynna Boshart three assists. These teams have split their last six matchups with Keota winning 55-51 a season ago. The last Raven win was 2018.
