The Hillcrest Academy Ravens and Highland Huskies will do battle tonight in Kalona, in a doubleheader you can hear on the KCII3 free stream and app.

The Highland girls are alone at the top of the SEISC-North this season, undefeated at 9-0 while going 11-1 overall. The Huskies still haven’t lost since the season opener back on November 21st. Highland has been overall dominant, averaging nearly 47 rebounds per game while outscoring their opponents this season by an average of 25 points. Sophomore Kamryn Fink will look to have another big day, but the Huskies will also look for continued production from freshman Kinzie Ruess, who recorded a season high 18 on Tuesday against Lone Tree.

Hillcrest, meanwhile, will try to break their losing skid. The Ravens have lost five in a row, with their last win coming exactly one month ago against Winfield-Mt. Union. Despite the struggles, the Ravens have scoring talent, primarily senior Clair Withrow, who averages 12 points a game this season on 35% shooting. Senior Niva Helmuth is strong in the post, picking up 9.1 points per game while gathering 8.5 rebounds per game.

The last time these two teams met, the Huskies defended their home floor in a 55-24 win. Fink led all scorers with 19, while Withrow led the Ravens with 10.

The situation will be flipped in the boys game, with Hillcrest undefeated and standing atop the SEISC-North at 8-0. The Ravens swept through the competition the first time through, defeating all conference opponents by double-digits except for Pekin, where the team won by 8. Junior forward Kale Bailey averages 19.1 points a game this season, with senior guard Rowan Miller and sophomore guard Gibson Scott both also reaching double-digit averages at 15.8 and 12.2 respectively. The Ravens are averaging nearly 65 points a game, and shoot 47% from the field.

The Highland boys will be clear underdogs in tonight’s contest, but the Huskies are riding a wave of momentum after defeating Lone Tree on Tuesday for their second conference win of the season. Highland averages 48 points a game, but have struggled defensively, allowing 67.5 points per game. Scoring for the Huskies is usually provided by one of three players; Landon Roling (16 PPG), Bryce Hazelett (13 PPG), or Jacob Schneider (9 PPG).

These two teams started their regular season campaigns against each other back on December 2nd, with Hillcrest winning 68-39. Miller and Bailey each crossed the 20-point line, while Jacob Schneider’s 17 was enough to lead the Huskies.

You can listen to tonight’s doubleheader by tuning into the KCII3 free stream and app. Pregame will start at 5:30 p.m. with the tip of the girls game at 6. The boys will start 20 minutes after the conclusion of the girls contest.
