The WACO girls and boys basketball teams both emerged victorious over Wapello on Tuesday, with the girls taking a close one, 53-51, and the boys also coming out on top, 58-43.
WACO’s girls have had trouble closing out games this season, but on Tuesday, they found the spark they needed. Trailing 44-38 heading into the fourth, the Warriors outscored the Arrows 15-7 in the final eight minutes to take the win. Despite shooting just 18/61 from the floor, WACO more than made up for it by out-rebounding Wapello, 40-24. That number included 16 offensive rebounds. Brenna Graber led the way for WACO with 14, while Ava Wagler added 10 points off the bench. Wapello’s Annaka Greiner led all scorers with 19. The WACO girls improve to 3-6 both in conference and overall, while Wapello drops to 6-5 overall, 5-4 in the SEISC-North.
WACO also needed to comeback from a fourth-quarter deficit in the boys’ game. Trailing 40-37, the Warriors embarked on a 21-3 run in the game’s final quarter to win by double-digits. WACO improves to 6-3 with the win, 6-2 in the conference. Wapello falls to 2-8 overall, and 2-6 in the conference.
Both Warriors teams will play at home later tonight, but against different teams. The girls will host Holy Trinity Catholic in a rescheduled game from December, while the boys welcome North Linn.
