The Sigourney boys and girls basketball teams hosted English Valleys in South Iowa Cedar League play Tuesday. The Sigourney boys scored a 72-55 win. The Savages doubled up the Bears in the first quarter 22-11 and were on top 33-20 at half. Sigourney outscored EV 24-11 in the third to lead 57-31 and put the game out of reach. The Savages shot 48% as a team with 34 rebounds, 17 assists, 13 steals and just 10 turnovers. John Berg led the offense with 19 points and grabbed eight boards. Hunter Sellers scored 12 and Solon Yates 10. Ike Molyneux added four assists and Yates, Molyneux and Landon Fisch each had three steals. Sigourney is now 6-1 on the year overall and in conference while the Bears drop to 5-4.
The girls game was an English Valleys win 65-56. Sigourney led early 17-12 after one, but a Bears 18-9 second quarter blitz put them up 30-26 at half. The Savages were down three going to the fourth at 44-41, but EV exploded for 21 fourth quarter points to get the road win. Sigourney out shot the Bears 36-34%, and won rebounding 46-31 with 10 assists and 10 steals. Each team stands at 5-3 overall.
