The Washington girls’ basketball team hosted Marion for a non-conference showdown Monday, with the Demons falling 60-39.
Washington fell behind early following an early onslaught from the Wolves, particularly, Kendyl Aarhus. The sophomore hit four triples in the first five minutes to give Marion an early double-digit lead. Despite a solid offensive output from the Demons, they still trailed 22-15 after the first. Unfortunately, Washington could not keep pace in the second quarter, being outscored 16-5 to fall into a 38-20 halftime score.
That status quo remained in the second half. Washington found themselves outrebounded, a rarity this season, and struggled to take advantage of opportunities at the free throw line. Washington trailed after the third, 53-32, and eventually dropped their first game since December 9th, 60-39.
Aarhus cooled off a tad after the first quarter but still put up 24 points to lead all scorers. Washington was led by Adalyn Long’s 14.
Washington will close out their week at the Demon Den as they host Burlington as part of a boy-girl doubleheader you can hear on KCII. The night will begin with the Demon Basketball Pregame Show at 5:30 p.m. with the girl’s tip-off at 6. The boys will follow the girls’ contest.
