
It’s a conference road trip Tuesday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams when they travel to Alburnett to face the newest member of the River Valley Conference Pirates in a River Valley doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls come into play at 5-2 on the year and 3-0 in conference after a 67-59 loss at No. 10 Solon Saturday. The Hawks are ranked No. 12 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. This year, the Hawks score 60 points per game, shooting 42% from the floor, 30% from three and 54% at the line with 36 rebounds, 20 steals, 16 assists and 18 turnovers. Individually, Morgyn Bender leads at 13 points per night. Jovi Evans pulls in six boards per game, Jeorgia Evans four steals and Katelyn Harland four assists.
Alburnett is 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in the RVC after a 47-36 win over Lisbon last time out. This season, the Pirates score 55 per night on 35% shooting, 29% from three and 54% at the line with 32 rebounds, 13 steals, 12 assists and 20 turnovers. Individually, Miranda Neighbor leads at 16 points and four assists per night. Katelynn Bowler has nine boards and Kylie Cushman three steals. The Hawks beat the Pirates last year 60-34. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Jenny Hobbs talked about what her team has to do to score the win Tuesday. “We have to bring the energy and effort. We can play defense, press and run and jump with any team in the State.”
The Mid-Prairie boys are 5-1 on the year, 3-0 in conference play after their first loss of the season 75-34 at Solon Saturday. The Hawks score 58 points per game on 44% shooting, 32% from three and 65% at the line with 27 rebounds, nine assists, eight steals and 13 turnovers per game. Individually, Bryce Henry averages 15 points and nine boards per night and Brooks Weber four assists and three steals per game.
Alburnett is 3-4 this year and 2-1 in conference after a loss to Wilton last time out. The Pirates score 59 points per night on 41% shooting, 34% from three and 60% at the line with 33 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individually, Caiden Bueckers leads at 19 points and three assists per night, Zach Krigbaum has six boards per game and Beckett Misener three assists. Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert joined Saturday’s postgame show to talk about the Hawk’s keys to bounce back. “We have to find consistency on the defensive side. Taking pride in that end of the floor. Being tough, physical and doing the things that we know we can do. The little things add up and doing those consistently. They are the things that are easy to do, but also the easiest not to do. When you don’t do them, you get yourself in trouble.”
Alburnett was a winner in this matchup last year 55-44.
