The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is the first Sheriff’s Office in Iowa to achieve the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program’s (ILEAP) Law Enforcement Accreditation.
The ILEAP Accreditation Program was developed by the Iowa Police Chiefs Association and the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association, with three goals to help law enforcement agencies; to establish and maintain standards that represent current professional law enforcement best practices, to increase the effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of law enforcement services, and to establish standards that address and reduce liability for the agency and its members.
To meet the accreditation requirements, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was required to make adjustments to existing policies and procedures, adding policies where applicable, communicate those changes to personnel, and then put the standards into practice. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was also required to submit proof of adherence to the standards.
The accreditation went into effect December 17, 2025, and is effective for four years.
