
After 35 years serving in law enforcement in Washington County, Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson has retired.
His final call was placed December 31st, “It is our honor and privilege to announce that on December 31st, 2025 at 11:20 hours, after 35 years of outstanding dedication and service, Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson is retiring from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to embark on the next chapter of his life. We will miss your work ethic, your attention to detail, your professionalism, your sense of humor, and the way that you are always making sure that things get done. Washington County is losing one of its best, and you will be missed. As you set sail on your next adventure, may you have calm seas and may the wind always be in your favor. Smooth sailing on your journey Shawn, and may your voyage be full of happiness. Be safe.”
Ellingson began his service in the Washington Police Department in 1990 and transitioned to the sheriff’s office in 2017.
Chad Ellis has been named the new Chief Deputy for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
