The Washington Economic Development Group (WEDG) Board of Directors approved the selection of Melanie Bimson to succeed Mary Audia as their next Executive Director. Mary Audia will be retiring in the first quarter of 2026 and will work together with Bimson during the transition period.

Bimson is a native of Washington, and will be leaving her current position as Economic Development Program Manager with Greater Iowa City Inc. to take on the leadership role at WEDG. Greater Iowa City Inc. is a network of business and public sector leaders who collaborate to support local companies, guide investment, and grow the economy throughout Johnson County. 

In October 2025, the WEDG Board adopted an updated strategic plan that identifies the strategic pillars for action. They include building childcare capacity, existing business retention and expansion, housing and workforce development and continuing to be a strong catalyst for action throughout Washington County.

Bimson is expected to start work with WEDG on January 19th
