The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team took on the field in a River Valley Conference quad Monday at West Liberty. The Hawks were beaten by the home Comets 48-33 and West Branch 42-36, but closed with a 48-30 win over the Tipton Tigers.

Mid-Prairie senior Ellie Callahan scored the 100th win of her career during the meet and talked with KCII Sports about the accomplishment. “This means everything! Since eighth grade, ever since I’ve been wrestling, this has been a goal. I’m so proud with how far I have made it. It’s amazing! It feels so great! Wow! I have wrestled 100 times, and won! We talk about work all the time, in the wrestling room, it takes every single ounce of effort you can ever give. You hear ‘blood, sweat, tears’. I have definitely put 100% of that in. It takes a lot of work to make it this far. My coaches and my teammates have been so supportive through all my work in the room and on the mat.”

She was 3-0 on the day with a pin. Other 3-0 athletes included Austyn Sexton with three pins, Lynde Cole and Sophie Miller each with two pins. Etta Belle was 2-1 with a pin and 8-1 decision. Mid-Prairie is now 1-2 in the River Valley with a Saturday trip to the Vinton-Shellsburg Tournament.
