The Winfield-Mt. Union Lady Wolves basketball team started the new year with a win, and an addition to the record books Thursday, beating New London 59-18. WMU put together scoring runs in each of the first three quarters, 22-5 in the first, 16-5 in the second to take a 38-10 lead to half, and 16-6 in the third to enact the running clock at 54-16 after three.
The Lady Wolves shot 40% from the floor, holding the Tigers to 20%. Wolves senior Madisen Kellogg was the leader on the scoresheet with 39 points on 17 of 27 shooting. That ties the school record for points in a game set by 1998 WMU alum Katie Sorrell. Lilly Heckethorn added eight points for the Wolves. WMU is now 1-0 on the year and takes the floor tonight at Pekin.
