
Longtime conference rivals hook up on the hardwood tonight in Lone Tree, as the home Lady Lions entertain the Highland Huskies in a marquee Area Game of the Week girls matchup you can hear on KCII.
Lone Tree is 1-1 on the young season after picking up a win against Iowa Valley Friday. Senior Ava Christofferson led the way with 19 points and three assists, while sophomore Harper Kuboushek had her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Lady Lions put up 52 points per game and give up 40, shooting 33% from the field, 28% from three and 48% from the line, with 36 rebounds, eight assists, 13 steals, three blocks, and 14 turnovers a night. Individually, two Lady Lions average at least 10 points per game, including Christofferson and Finley Jacque.
Highland is also 1-1 with a win over Iowa Valley Saturday. Junior Hailey Brun had 15 to pace the Huskies, with Katelyn Thomann hitting three from deep to tally 11 points. Kamryn Fink also cracked double digits with 10 of her own. This year, Highland scores 56 points per game and gives up 43, shooting 34% from the field, 24% from deep and 44% from the foul line, with 44 rebounds, 17 assists, 22 steals, two blocks, and 23 turnovers a night. This year, three Huskies score at least 10 points per game, including Fink at the top with 14-and-a-half followed by Brun and Thomann at 10-and-a-half and 10, respectively.
In the Varsity Bound era, Highland leads the all-time series with Lone Tree 20-15 dating back to 2006. The Lady Lions have been making up ground in the series, having taken five of the last six, including the most recent matchup in dominant fashion 67-24 in January.
