A Minnesota man wanted on murder charges was arrested after a multi-county pursuit that began in Washington County on Sunday afternoon.
Officials arrested 45-year-old Randy Zimmerman of Courland, Minnesota, in Muscatine County. According to local officials, around 3 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to information received of a wanted subject eastbound on Highway 92. The suspect’s vehicle was located after a License Plate Recognition System provided a hit in Washington County.
According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Louisa County and Muscatine County deputies intercepted the suspect being followed by a Washington County deputy near county Highway 43 and Highway 92. The pursuit reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.
Zimmerman fired a single shot from a shotgun at a Louisa County Deputy, not harming any law enforcement officers. A Louisa County deputy pitted the vehicle and disabled it. Zimmerman left his vehicle, eluding authorities on foot. He was taken into custody by force. The shotgun he had used was located near the scene.
Zimmerman was subsequently arrested on a felony warrant out of Hanska County, Minnesota, for a double homicide. Zimmerman remains in the Louisa County Jail at this time on a $5,000,000 cash-only bond and has waived extradition awaiting transport back to Minnesota.
Local charges have yet to be filed.
Muscatine County and Washington County sheriff’s offices, Letts Fire Department, and Wapello Ambulance assisted during this pursuit and arrest.
