
Two local teams have advanced through the first round of the Iowa High School Athletic Association football playoffs. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and Sigourney-Keota Cobras will both be in action again this week and found out their roads to the dome with playoff pods announced.
In Class 2A, the No. 3 ranked Golden Hawks will have home field throughout. Mid-Prairie was a 34-19 winner in their first round game over North Fayette Valley last Friday in Wellman. Their second round game is a rematch with Mediapolis, which Mid-Prairie won 62-21 back on October 10th. The Golden Hawks are the one seed with an 8-1 overall record, champions of District 6. The Bulldogs are 5-4 and finished in third place in District 6.
In Class 1A, the SK Cobras will be on the road against the No. 8 Dyersville Beckman Blazers. The Cobras cruised past the I-35 Roadrunners in the opening round at the Snake Pit last week 45-0. The Blazers are a top seed at 8-1, champions of Class 1A District 5.
