A pursuit in Louisa County reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour Monday afternoon and resulted in one arrest. According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, around 2:05 p.m. Authorities were notified of a reckless driver in a Jeep southbound on Highway 61 near Grandview. The notice was from an Iowa DOT vehicle. A deputy sheriff attempted to conduct a traffic stop near 130th Street and Highway 61.

The vehicle eluded law enforcement and reached speeds over 100 miles per hour as it continued south into Wapello. It entered the town at high speeds and turned east onto Mill Street. The Jeep abruptly stopped on Mill Street near Cedar Street.

Officers arrested the driver – 40-year old Andrew Witham of Davenport. A K9 unit assisted on scene and made a positive alert to narcotics and a search resulted in crystalized substances being located near the driver’s floorboard. The substances will be further analyzed.

Witham has been charged with: eluding, a class D felony; third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, driving while revoked, a serious misdemeanor; and speeding and stop sign violations. He was taken to the Louisa County Jail and bond was set at $11,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for October 17th
