It’s a road trip for the second straight week for the WACO Warriors when they travel to Belle Plaine Friday for district action. WACO suffered their first defeat of the year last week, a 54-13 loss in a neutral site game against Fremont-Mills at Central Decatur. The Warriors were bitten by the turnover bug, losing the category 6-2. They were outgained 295 to 272 in total. Hayden Shelman put up 229 all-purpose yards including a 22 rush 144 yard and two touchdown night on the ground. Niles Reichenbach and Sam Meyer each had four tackles and Meyer two fumble recoveries. This season, the Warriors score 38 points per game and give up 21. They average 323 yards per night, 250 rushing and 73 passing and have a negative turnover margin. Individually, Shelman leads in the air and on the ground, posting 22 of 31 for 196 yards, two touchdowns and two picks with his arm and 75 carries for 639 yards and 12 rushing scores with his legs. Nick West has also thrown for two touchdowns, Trey Edeker has run for two and Reichenbach, Casey Coakley, Jacob Graber and Conner Sizemore each have one rushing score. Teage Pepper has seven catches, Raefe Davison 84 yards receiving, and Kellen Shelman and Levi Brown have each caught two touchdowns. Defensively, Kellen Shelman has a team best 18 tackles and six different Warriors have takeaways. WACO ranks in the top 10 of eight-man in eight categories
Belle Plaine is 1-3 this year, winners last week over English Valleys 56-50. They won total yards 423-388 including 328 to 239 on the ground. Individually, Aidan Timm had 238 all-purpose yards , 93 through the air on 7 of 11 passing and three scores and 145 on the ground on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Wade Sankot had 165 yards rushing and two scores. He also caught six passes for 83 yards and two more touchdowns. Derek Kressley caught a touchdown. Sankot was the leading tackler with 12 stops. On the year, the Plainesmen score 23 and give up 52 per night. They average 233 yards per night, 178 rushing and 45 passing and have a negative turnover margin. Individually, Timm is 21 of 43 throwing for 295 yards, five touchdowns and five picks. His favorite target is Sankot with 12 catches, 164 yards and three scores. Timm also leads on the ground with 62 carries 354 yards and four touchdowns. On defense he has a team best 28 tackles.
This is the first meeting between the two schools. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. At Douglas Field in Belle Plaine.
