Schools in Louisa County were placed in a “soft” lockdown Friday morning and the lockdown was lifted by 12:15 p.m. Louisa County Sheriff Brandon Marquardt stated an individual made a threat to “shoot up a school or church.”

He shared that the individual was not in our state but had a local address. Marquardt explained the local authorities near that individual are handling what “appears to be a mentally ill person.”

The “soft” lockdown included schools in Columbus Junction, Wapello, Louisa-Muscatine, and Morning Sun. A “soft” lockdown means that students and staff can move freely about the building but they are not allowed to leave the building.

KCII will provide more information as it becomes official.
