It’s senior night for the Washington Demon football team, as they look for win number two on the season tonight at Case Field by welcoming the Oskaloosa Indians in a game you can hear on KCII.

The Demons are 1-2 on the year after capturing their first win of the season last Friday against conference rival Burlington 16-14 in a nail-biter. Quarterback Kael Williams was the deciding factor on the ground, racking up 157 yards on 21 carries and was responsible for both Demon touchdowns. He and Liam Roberts each had a pick. Braedon Tappan connected on a 33 yard field goal in the first quarter. This season, Washington scores 19 points-per-game, and gives up 36, averaging 248 yards a game, 156 on the ground. Williams is the only passer of record, having completed 24 passes for 275 yards and three TDs. He is the leading rusher with 309 yards on 52 carries and three scores. Carson Brown is the leader in receptions with eight, while Roberts leads in receiving yards with 146 and two touchdowns. Clayton Evans leads the Demon defense with 25-and-a-half tackles, including two for loss. Gatlin Nash and Brady Krantz have combined for two-and-a-half sacks. Washington has four takeaways as a team, and is top 10 in 3A in two statistical categories.

Oskaloosa is 0-3 on the season after a 34-20 loss at home to Mount Pleasant last Friday. Junior quarterback Tyler Edgar completed 12 of 23 passes for 190 yards and two scores, including a rushing touchdown. Heavon Knox hauled in six passes for 122 yards and both touchdowns. Defensively, Brock Beerbower led the squad with seven total tackles, two-and-a-half for loss, and half a sack. Cael Ashman recovered a fumble. This year, the Indians score 17 points-per-game, and give up 29, averaging 247 yards a night, 156 through the air. Edgar is the passer of record, having completed 33 of his 62 passes for 467 yards and six scores. He is also the team’s leading rusher with 134 yards on 39 attempts and a TD. Knox leads with 15 catches, while Kayne Boender leads in receiving yards with 223. Both have combined for six TD receptions. Beerbower is the top defensive dog with 17 total tackles, five-and-a-half for loss, and one-and-a-half sacks. The Indians have three takeaways, all fumble recoveries. They are top 10 in 4A in five statistical categories.

This week, Washington head coach Kelly Williams broke down his team’s matchup with the Indians with KCII Sports.

“Their quarterback does some really nice things, and then they’ve got two wide receivers, number two and number four, very dynamic players,” Williams said. “Sometimes they put them [the wide receivers] on the same side of the field. [That] kind of handcuffs you on what you can do. Still going to have to keep contain on the quarterback, kind of like we did with the running back last week. Now it just shifts a little bit more to the outside. They’re pretty dynamic.”

In the Varsity Bound era, Washington owns a slim lead in the all-time series with Osky 5-4 dating back to 2008, including last year’s meeting 21-14.
