Five local schools ran at Knoll Ridge Golf Course in North English Tuesday for the English Valleys Invitational.

The boys race saw a three-peat as Sigourney senior Troy Klett raced to his third straight title this season in 17:54, helping the Savages to an area’s best runner-up finish of 73 points. EV won their home meet with 58. Other Sigourney runners included Levi Myers 13th, Jordan Anderson 19th, Cole Klett 24th, and Isaac Jones 27th. Klett spoke after the race about the win. “With the weather and course combined it was tough but, it was an enjoyable race. The rolling hills gave you something different than just straight uphill and straight downhill. We’ve run here every year so to finally get the win here my senior year is kinda cool. My game plan for today was to go out easy. In the first mile it’s very easy to go too fast and that’s something to pay attention to.”

Hillcrest Academy was fourth of eight schools with 90 points. Calvin Meller went top 10 in ninth to lead at 20:00. Other Raven runners included Jaxson Brokaw 11th, Braden Hartsock 15th, Isaac Beachy 17th, Mateo Rodriguez-Yoder 58th and Lucas Beachy 60th.

Lone Tree was fifth with 119 points. Brock Nebergall put together a third place race in 18:55, he was followed by Dallas Grimm 18th, Carter Parrish 39th, Trenton McKean 43rd, and Max Poock 47th.

Keota and Highland did not post team scores but the Eagles were led by Hunter Grandstaff 22nd in 21:57, followed by Chase Haifley 28th, and Luke Moeller 38th. For the Huskies it was Kyler Fink 31st in 23:20, then Alan Nass 36th, Brayden Zywiec 42nd and Jackson Robinson 56th.

In the girls race, Hillcrest Academy’s Marie Yoder won it all in 21:25. She broke down the win after the race. “Today was really hot, but the whole course is hills and that makes it really challenging. It’s really helpful that I have run here before because I just know the course better. My gameplan was to run my first mile faster so I could try to keep going my last two laps. My first mile was faster than my other laps, not quite as fast as I wanted it to be, but still pretty good.”

Her teammate Siena Stanerson was not far behind in third place.

Sigourney had a top 15 trio on the girls side, led by Addison Yates fourth in 22:24, then Brynn Clarahan ninth and Cloee Wilson 15th. The Highland Huskies had Grace Bombei go 13th in 25:23. For Lone Tree it was Carlee Sexton 19th in 27:27, then Jazmine Nino 21st, and Abby Zaruba 25th.
