The Washington City Council approved the North Central Urban Renewal plan at their Tuesday meeting. The business is related to a residential subdivision to be built on the north side of Washington.
On August 12th the Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the proposed urban renewal plan, and approved it.
On August 21st, a consultation meeting was scheduled for county and school officials to learn about the plan. A county representative was present and no school representative was in attendance. With those items completed, the public hearing was held at Tuesday’s council meeting.
Following the public hearing, the Council considered two items related to the establishment of the Urban Renewal Area. The first was the approval of a resolution to establish the area, and the second was the first reading on an ordinance for levying taxes in the urban renewal area. The second reading will be held at the next City Council meeting on September 16th.
An item to set a public hearing for a development agreement with DW Developments will be considered at the October 7th Council meeting. The development agreement will set provisions for the infrastructure that will be needed within the Havel Subdivision. This will include extending 5th Avenue through the subdivision and installing water and sewer infrastructure to serve the homes that will be constructed on that street.
