Three Wellman residents took home honors in the Apiary category at the Iowa State Fair.  

Rachel Vakulich took home a blue ribbon for her window display. She also placed in the gift basket category. Jonathan Vakulich took the top honor in the beekeeping photo category, and also placed in the beeswax candles category. James Miller placed in the amber extracted honey, and white extracted honey categories.  

Two local brewers came back with placing in their respective categories. John TeBockhorst from Washington placed in multiple beer categories, including: Helles Bock with a gold, Munich Helles with a bronze, American Pale Ale with silver, Spiced Cider with gold, and Berry Mead with gold. Bill Zywiec from Riverside received bronze for his fruit beer.
