This new school year for the Washington District is bringing new changes including a new middle school building.

With the newly completed  middle school attached to the existing high school building, approximately 850 students will be in that one building. The district has put together a traffic map to help ease congestion and make drop-off and pick-up as smooth as possible for everyone.

Superintendent Willie Stone shared advice for parents before the start of the year, “I would recommend that people go out and follow, and see what we are talking about (on the map) to get people in and out as quickly as possible.”  A map with instructions has been shared by the district and can be found with this news story at KCIIRadio.com

Those who drive into town from the northwest, west, or southwest should use the new W. Buchanan Street that runs into South E Avenue on the south side of the cemetery and school.

Middle school students can be dropped off and picked up in the driveway on the northwest corner of the school from South E Avenue. Those vehicles will then exit onto West Tyler and are encouraged to take South C Avenue towards Highway 92 to get out of the congested area.

Only school buses are permitted to drop off students in front of the middle school building’s main entrance on S B Avenue between 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 3-4 p.m.

The high school’s dropoff and pick up remains on the south side of the building. Those using this should take Sitler Drive. High school student drivers should avoid using South E Avenue during drop-off and pick-up times. Use Sitler or enter on the east side of the high school parking lot.
