Long-time Washington Demon boys head track and field coach Steve Roth has more hardware for the trophy case at Case Field. Roth was named Boys Wheelchair Coach of the Year by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches for 2025. The award highlights the success of Demon student-athlete Josh Anderson who had a big spring on the oval.

The season started with a state title as Anderson won the 200m at the IATC indoor championships in Ames in March. He rewrote the record books on his home track during the Steve Roth Relays, erasing the previous marks in the wheelchair 100, 200 and 400s in wins. Anderson also competed on the big stage for the Drake Relays in Des Moines where he was fourth in the wheelchair 400. He was part of a second place team finish at the Southeast Conference Championships in Fairfield. Anderson qualified for the Class 3A State meet by rolling to district titles in the 100, 200 and 400 wheelchair races. On the Blue Oval in Des Moines, Anderson brought home hardware for the third straight season, medaling in the all four events, taking third in the 200 and fourth in the 100, 400 and 800.

Roth is a multi-time IATC Track Coach of the Year and was named National Track Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association in 2023.
