Today we’re starting our KCII Top 10 Countdown of the biggest stories in Washington High School sports for the 2024-2025 academic year. At number 10 is softball player Leighton Salazar setting new school records on the diamond.
After she broke multiple single-season school marks over the last two years, Salazar would again rewrite the Washington softball record books.
The junior scored 59 runs to break the single-season record she set in 2023 and had 72 total hits to match the record mark from two years ago. Salazar also had 54 stolen bases, smashing the record number of 38 that she put up the year prior.
On her way to a third-straight all-state selection in Class 3A, Salazar finished the 2025 season with a .522 batting average and collected 15 doubles and 34 runs batted in for a Demon team that went 29-11, won a conference championship and reached the state tournament for the first time in over a decade.
Keep listening to KCII and check online at KCIIradio.com as the countdown continues tomorrow of the Top 10 Washington High Sports Stories of 2024-2025.
