
Iowa experienced a wet and humid week last week, resulting in the sixth consecutive week of unseasonably wet conditions across the state according to State Climatologist Justin Glisan.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition Report, southeast Iowa’s surplus of topsoil and subsoil moisture have doubled in the last week. The most recent data shows southeast Iowa’s topsoil moisture rated at 35% surplus, 54% adequate, and 11% short to very short. Last week in the region, it was rated at 16% surplus and 65% adequate.
The statistics for southeast Iowa’s subsoil moisture show ratings this week of 22% surplus, 67% adequate, and 11% short to very short. Last week it was 11% surplus, 68% adequate, and 21% short to very short.
