The Sigourney Savages had another stellar summer of softball, winning the South Iowa Cedar League for a fifth straight year, and six players who paved the road to another excellent season came away with all-conference honors.
That includes Josephine Moore, who is once again a first-team choice, but this time at pitcher. The senior stepped in as the full-time starter in the circle for Sigourney and was outstanding, compiling a 17-5 record and a 1.23 earned-run average while also racking up a whopping 189 strikeouts in 142 innings of work.
Moore was also the Savages’ top hitter, leading the team with a .536 batting average, 37 total hits, 10 doubles, nine home runs, 39 runs batted in and 28 runs scored. Senior Dani Aller also gets a first-team nod at infielder after scoring 22 runs and hitting .357 with three doubles and three triples.
Eighth-grader Kinsley Clubb stepped into the lead-off role for the Savage lineup and gets first-team accolades at outfielder for batting .300 and scoring 20 times. Freshman infielder Devyn Smallwood gets a second-team selection after hitting over .300 with four doubles, four homers and 22 RBI.
Honorable mentions go to eighth-grader Kiley Cavin and freshman Ella Bruns, who played key roles in helping Sigourney go 18-8. The Savages’ Shelly Streigle is also once again named the South Iowa Cedar League Coach of the Year.
