The KCII listening area is under an extreme heat watch through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities, heat and humidity will increase Tuesday through Thursday with peak heat indices of 95 to 105 degrees. An extreme heat watch has been issued from noon Tuesday to Thursday evening.
It is important to remember during extreme heat that young children and infants are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illness and death, as their bodies are less able to adapt to heat than adults. Older adults, particularly those who have pre-existing diseases, take certain medications, are living alone or have limited mobility who are exposed to extreme heat can experience multiple adverse effects.
It is never safe to leave a child, disabled person, or pet locked in a car. If you have a toddler in your household, lock your cars, even in your own driveway. Kids may play in cars and can die in 10 minutes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A reported 39 children died in hot cars in 2024.
If you must be outside, take multiple breaks, drink lots of water, and know when to seek a cooler space.
