
Three area rivers are under flood warnings in the KCII-listening area following heavy rainfall over the weekend. Washington received between four and five inches of precipitation on Sunday. The rain caused multiple roads and intersections in Washington to be impassable including North 2nd at the railroad overpass. Many houses sustained flooded basements.
According to the National Weather Service, moderate flooding is forecast for the North Skunk River near Sigourney and the flood warning there is in effect through Wednesday afternoon. Flood stage is 16 feet and the river is expected to crest at 18 feet on Tuesday.
Minor flooding is expected along the English River in Kalona. Flood stage there is 14 feet and it is expected to crest at 15.1 feet Tuesday morning. At 16 feet of water, several county roads are impacted. The flood warning at Kalona is in effect until Tuesday night.
A flood warning is in effect until further notice for the Iowa River at Marengo. Minor flooding is forecast.
