The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball team is on their way back to the Class 1A State tournament for the first time since 2008. following their exciting 1-0 substate win over Pekin earlier this week. The Ravens, and the seven other teams joining them at Merchant’s Park in Carroll, have officially been seeded and placed in this year’s bracket.
Hillcrest, champions of the North Division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference, take their 17-7 overall record and seven game winning streak to state as the eight seed. They will meet top seeded and No. 1 Remsen-St. Mary’s in the quarterfinals. The Hawks were 23-1 overall, undefeated champions of the War Eagle Conference. They enter state on a 23-game win streak that includes a 3-0 victory over Gehlen Catholic in the substate final.
Other quarterfinals matchups include fourth seeded and No. 6 ranked Martensdale-St. Marys vs fifth seed and No. 8 ranked Kee, Lansing, second seed, third ranked and defending champ Lynnville-Sully against seventh seed East Buchanan and third seed, fifth ranked Saint Ansgar taking on sixth seed, 13th ranked Logan Magnolia.
