One person died in a car wreck on Highway 218 north of Mt. Pleasant Wednesday. 

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 2nd authorities received a report of the two-vehicle wreck. According to officials, a 2025 Honda Civic driven by 19 year-old Marin Michael Rose of Fort Madison, was travelling in the southbound lane when he crossed the median for an unknown reason and struck a freight semi near Hickory Grove Cemetery. 

The semi came to rest across both northbound lanes after the wreck. Traffic was detoured around the scene on gravel roads. Rose was pronounced dead at the scene, the semi driver sustained no injuries. 

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by multiple agencies at the scene. The crash remains under investigation
