The Sigourney Savages swept a diamond doubleheader last night against Montezuma. Sigourney baseball remained unbeaten in conference play by blanking Montezuma 10-0, as four runs in the second and third inning each led to them ending the game after five frames.

The Savages, ranked second in the state in Class 1A, are now a perfect 13-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League and have an overall record of 17-1. Meanwhile, Sigourney softball fell behind early, but five runs in the third inning erased a 1-0 deficit on their way to defeating Montezuma 8-2.

Senior Josephine Moore led the Savage lineup by crushing her eighth home run of the season and collecting three runs batted in on two total hits. Eighth-grader Kinsley Clubb also had two hits and scored two runs, while sophomore Kia Montgomery came up with one RBI on a pair of knocks and scored once.

Senior Dani Aller added two base hits and Moore racked up 11 strikeouts while also allowing only three hits and two walks in pitching a complete game. The win means Sigourney improves to 13-6, including a 13-1 mark in conference play.

Both Savage squads will be in action again this evening in make-up games, with baseball hosting BGM and softball finishing a postponed contest with Iowa Valley.
