Mother Nature intervened Monday at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman, leaving things unfinished on the diamond between the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Durant Wildcat baseball teams. The two teams completed game one of the doubleheader earlier this week, with the Wildcats spoiling the Hawks Senior Night in a 5-3 win. Mid-Prairie built an early lead with single runs in the second and third to go up 2-0. Durant erased the advantage in one inning, scoring three in the fifth, and put up two more in the sixth to make it 5-2. The Hawks got one back in the bottom of six, but no more. The Wildcats won the hit column 9-5, and drew four walks to Mid-Prairie’s two. Blake Swart, Brooks Weber, Tatem Telfer, Landry Gingerich and Conner Wiles had one hit each. Telfer, Wiles and Gentry Bontrager collected RBI. Brady Weber worked six innings with seven hits, four earned runs, three walks and and three strikeouts.

The nightcap was nearly half done when weather stopped action. The Hawks scored in the first when Swart and Brady Weber started the game with singles and Swart sprinted home on a Wildcat error. Things remained 1-0 into the bottom of the third when, with the bases loaded for Mid-Prairie, two outs, and Jason Heitman at the plate, the contest entered a lightning delay and was ultimately suspended. They will resume from that spot tonight in Durant, and play the originally scheduled game between the two schools as part of a doubleheader with first pitch at 5p.m.

The Golden Hawk girls are also in Durant tonight to meet the top five ranked Wildcats. The Hawks are 6-11 on the year and 3-4 in conference after a 12-0 setback at No. 11 in Class 4A Grinnell Tuesday. Mid-Prairie hits .273 as a team with a .378OBP and .357 slug on 98 runs, 120 hits, 85RBI, 65 walks and 74 strikeouts. Sophie Miller leads with a .490 average on 25 hits. Kadence Grout has 17 RBI and Elise Foster 17 runs scored. In the circle, Grout, Alena Snider and Naomi Wadsworth have a collective 6.98ERA, 2.14WHIP, .310 opponent average, 145 hits, 98 earned runs, 65 walks, and 40 strikeouts. Durant is 14-8 on the year, 6-0 in the River Valley after dropping both games of a doubleheader Tuesday to No. 10 in 5A Muscatine 8-4, and 2-1. The Wildcats are ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They hold a .308 average as a team with a .388OBP, .426 slug, 114 runs, 156 hits, 92RBI, 56 walks and 89 strikeouts. Allison Toft leads with a .521 average and 25 hits. Paige Happ has scored 15 runs and Bailey Kraklio 18RBI. In the circle the Wildcat ERA is 3.04 as a staff with a 1.29WHIP and .207 opponent average on 120 hits, 59 earned runs, 56 walks and 110 strikeouts. Toft has a 6-1 record. These teams have split their last six meetings, with the Wildcats winning 9-4 earlier this week. Action starts at 7p.m. At Durant High School.
