lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions edged out the Highland Huskies 7-5 last night in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference softball showdown that came down to the final at-bat.

After Highland scored the game’s first run in the first inning and got two more in the top of the third, Lone Tree finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom half and would tie the game at 3 with two runs in the fourth.

The Huskies would go back in front by scoring twice in the top of the seventh and looked to be on the verge of victory. But the Lions loaded the bases in the final half-inning, and eighth-grader Adi Parizek wouldn’t just add one more swing to get a seventh-inning rally going, but she would hammer a walk-off grand slam to win the game.

Parizek finished the night with two total hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Alex Dautremont had a team-high three hits for the Lions and collected a pair of runs batted in, while fellow seniors Vivian Zaruba, Rylee Shield, Cate Sexton and Haley Bockelman each added one base hit and one run scored.

Dautremont pitched a complete game in the victory for Lone Tree, giving up three earned runs on nine hits and three walks. The senior also racked up six strikeouts as the Lions win their seventh straight game and improve to 13-6, including a 8-4 mark in the Super Conference North.

Meanwhile, Highland comes up just shy of a third straight victory in falling to 4-4 in conference play and 7-7 overall. The Huskies will next play this afternoon at Hillcrest Academy, while Lone Tree is off until tomorrow evening’s matchup with Columbus.
