The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team had a busy weekend, traveling to the Harlan Rodgers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge to play four games at the Fort Dodge Invitational.

Mid-Prairie’s win came over perennial power, No. 3 in Class 1A Newell-Fonda 6-5. The Golden Hawks struck first, scoring four times in the top of the second. The Mustangs cut the lead in half with two of their own in the bottom, only to see the Hawks answer with two in the third to go back up 6-2. A single Mustang run in the third and two more in the fifth brought them back within a tally, but Mid-Prairie held on for the win. The Hawks were out hit 7-4 but drew nine walks and issued four. Elise Foster drove in a pair on a hit with a run scored. Sophia Puttmann scored twice, Sophie Miller, Claire Trimpe and Macie Ihrig all had an RBI. Foster, Miller, Trimpe and Isabelle Litwiller all had a hit, Foster, Kyla Karnes, Trimpe and Ihrig all scored a run. Alena Snider got the win in the circle in three innings with four hits, three earned runs two walks and four strikeouts.

The Golden Hawks dropped contests to No. 2 Williamsburg 12-4, No. 6 Clear Creek Amana 2-0, and Atlantic 3-2. In their three losses, the Hawks were led by five hits, three runs and an RBI for Miller, four hits, a homer, three RBI and a run for Karnes, and two hits for Claire Trimpe. Grout and Snider combined on 16 innings thrown, six strikeouts, 14 earned runs, eight walks and 15 hits allowed. Mid-Prairie stood at 6-9 after the weekend.
