The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams take the diamond tonight against the Durant Wildcats with a little extra on their minds. The Mid-Prairie baseball team hosts the Wildcats for Senior Night. The baseball Hawks are 12-8 on the year, 8-4, third in the River Valley Conference after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Bettendorf Friday. On the year, the Hawks hit .269 together with a .398OBP, .361slug, 123 runs, 142 hits, 100RBI, 89 walks and 107 strikeouts. Individually, three Hawks are .300 or better led by Tatem Telfer’s .426 average with 19RBI. Brooks Weber has 24 total hits and 15 runs scored. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie team ERA is 2.96 with a 1.45WHIP, .220 opponent average with 113 hits, 57 earned runs, 82 walks, and 163 strikeouts. Brady Weber and Telfer are a combined 8-0 with a 0.78ERA.

Durant is 12-4 overall, 8-2 in the RVC. The Wildcats have won seven straight including a 12-2 victory over Midland last time out. This year the Wildcats hit .278 as a team with a .445OBP, .390 slug, 108 runs, 114 hits, 89RBI, 109 walks and 93 strikeouts. Coby Gast is the leader with a .512 average, 21 hits and 21 runs scored. Conner Schwarz has driven in 20. The Durant team ERA is 2.45 with a 1.26WHIP and .184 opponent average on 69 hits, 36 earned runs, 61 walks and 140 strikeouts. Gast is 5-0 with a 0.71ERA. The Hawks have won seven of the last eight in the series. The Golden Hawks will hold a ceremony for six seniors tonight including Landry Gingerich, Brady Weber, Blake Swart, Conner Wiles, Tatem Telfer and Jason Heitman.

The Golden Hawk girls are 6-7 overall this year and 3-3 in the River Valley after a 1-3 weekend at the Fort Dodge tournament where they beat Newell-Fonda, but fell to Williamsburg, Clear Creek Amana and Atlantic. This season, the Hawks hit .300 as a team with a .401OBP and .392 slug on 85 total hits, 74 runs, 63RBI, 42 walks and 49 strikeouts. Individually three Hawks are .400 or better, led by Kadence Grout at .457 with 16 total hits and 14 driven in. Claire Trimpe has scored 13 runs. In the circle, the group of Grout, Alena Snider and Naomi Wadsworth have a 7.31ERA, 2.27WHIP, .316 team average, 91 hits, 63 earned runs, 46 walks and 28 strikeouts.

Durant is 12-6 this year, 5-0 in the RVC. The Wildcats are ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They dropped a 10-0 game to Albia over the weekend at the Oskaloosa tournament. On the year, the Wildcats hit .318 as a group with a .406OBP, .432 slug, 91 runs, 122 hits, 74RBI, 49 walks and 62 strikeouts. Allison Toft is the leader with a .521 average and 25 total hits, Bailey Kraklio has knocked in 17. In the circle, The Wildcats have a team ERA of 2.73 and 1.18WHIP with a .193 opponent average, 91 hits, 40 earned runs, 40 walks and 95 strikeouts. Toft has a 6-1 record. The Hawks have won seven of the last eight in the series. It’s also Cancer Awareness Night at the game in Kalona to support the Jared Miller family. Those who attend should wear blue.
