The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team was swept in both games of a doubleheader Friday night at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman by the No. 11 in Class 4A Bettendorf Bulldogs. The visitors took game one 9-2 and the nightcap 13-2. Each team got a run in the first inning of the opener, but Bettendorf added two each in the second and fourth, three in the sixth and another in the seventh to close the game. The Bulldogs out hit the Hawks 13-3 in total. Each team drew three walks. Tatem Telfer had a two hit game with a double, Brooks Weber and Cash Brown each scored a run. Gentry Bontrager threw five and a third innings with 12 hits, six earned runs, a walks and strikeout.

In the second matchup, the Bulldogs posted four in the opening frame, Mid-Prairie came back with one in the bottom of the second, only to see Bettendorf get five in the third and four in the seventh. The Bulldogs out hit the Hawks 13-3 again in the rematch, while drawing four walks to Mid-Prairie’s three. Brady Weber, Brooks Weber and Landry Gingerich each had a hit. Blake Swart drove in a run, Conner Wiles and Jason Heitman each scored once. Kale Miller worked three frames on the hill with nine hits, two earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts. Mid-Prairie is 12-8 after the loss, Bettendorf moves to 15-6 after the sweep. The Hawks host Durant tonight for a doubleheader.
