
Officials responded to a house fire with flames seen from the roof at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, located at 505 North Iowa Avenue in Washington.
According to officials, the fire started on the third story, west side in apartment #4. The exact cause is still under investigation, although it appears the fire started on the deck outside of the apartment. The structure sustained significant damage. There were 12 occupants and all were able to safely get out. There were a total of four apartments in this house.
Fire Departments that responded to the scene included those from Washington, Ainsworth, Keota, Kalona, Riverside, and Wayland. Also assisting at the scene were the Washington Police Department and Washington Ambulance.
A public Gofundme fund has been established for at least one resident.
