All 88 children removed from two sites connected to a religious camp in Louisa County have been reunited with their families. The investigation is ongoing. Louisa County Sheriff Brandon Marquardt stated Tuesday that no arrests have been made yet.
On Monday, authorities announced that on June 12th and 13th a safeguard child protective custody operation and search warrants were executed at two locations – the Kingdom Ministry Rehabilitation and the Shekinah Glory Camp. The two sites are located in Fredonia and in rural Columbus Junction.
The Kingdom Ministry of Rehabilitation and Recreation was founded in 2018 and offers a summer camp that runs from June 8th through the 29th, according to the organization’s website. The Shekinah Glory Camp’s Facebook page also lists a 21-day camping event that includes “worship, teaching, and activities for all ages, led by Victoria Camp Ministry USA.”
Agencies that assisted with the investigation and response at this point include the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Columbus Junction Police Department, the Wapello Community Ambulance, multiple Child Protection Workers, the Wapello Methodist Church, the Wapello Community School and food pantry, and area volunteers.
