
It was a Monday Southeast Iowa Superconference cross over split for Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball against New London Tigers. The Raven girls were an 11-7 winner over New London/Winfield-Mt. Union. Bats on both sides were hot early with the Ravens posting a pair in the first and the Tigers answering with four in the bottom half to go up 4-2. The Raven response was five runs in the second and four more in the third to build an 11-4 advantage. The Tiger’s rally fell short with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Hillcrest out hit New London/Winfield-Mt. Union 14-7 on the night and drew five walks while issuing eight. Malia Yoder powered the Ravens with four hits, including a homer and four RBI, with a pair of runs scored. Delaney Shaw and Claire Withrow each drove in two. Shaw finished with three hits. Morgyn Nafziger and Kylee Statler each had two hits and an RBI. Yoder and Ella Mize worked in the circle, combining on seven hits, four earned runs, eight walks and 10 strikeouts. Tiger leaders included Olivia Hester with two hits and an RBI. Jayda Nichols knocked in two. Kylea Schwenker took the loss in the circle, going seven with 14 hits, eight earned runs, five walks and eight strikeouts. Hillcrest was 6-9 after the win. New London is now 1-14.
The Tigers tripped up the Ravens on the baseball diamond 5-4 with a walk-off. The two teams rode the see-saw early with Hillcrest scoring once in the top of the first, the Tigers with two in the bottom, a pair from Hillcrest in the third and one in the fourth put them up 4-2. New London tied the game at four with two in the fifth then got the game winner in the seventh. The Ravens were out hit 12-4, but drew eight walks and gave up only two. Liam Schrock had a triple and the lone Hillcrest RBI. Seth Ours had a hit and scored twice. Rowan Miller and Bryce Bailey had one knock each. Schrock took the loss going six and a third with 10 hits, three earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. The Ravens are 5-5, New London improves to 9-6.
