The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team was closed out late on the road Monday by the No. 10 Wilton Beavers in an 8-3 River Valley Conference loss. The two teams traded the lead early, with Wilton up 1-0 after one, Mid-Prairie 2-1 after one and a half, the Beavers 3-2 through two and 4-2 after three. Wilton’s four run sixth inning gave them an 8-2 lead and put the game away. The Hawks would score once in the seventh but it wasn’t enough. Mid-Prairie was out hit 12-5 in total in the loss. The Golden Hawks drew three walks and issued two. Sophie Miller had a two hit night with an RBI. Claire Trimpe drove in one and scored once. Sophia Puttmann and Jersey Jergens each scored once, and Kadence Grout, Isabelle Litwiller and Braelee Yoder each had a hit. Grout and Alena Snider threw three innings each, combining to surrender 11 hits, six earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

The loss dropped Mid-Prairie to 4-6 on the year while the Beavers climb to 8-6. Mid-Prairie is next in action Thursday when they host Wilton in Kalona.
