Washington Demon softball remained undefeated in conference play by sweeping a doubleheader at Fairfield last night. Washington put on an offensive show with a 15-6 win in Game One, and they continued to swing the bats well by claiming the second game 10-1. The Demons improve to 5-0 in the Southeast Conference and 10-4 overall.
Washington baseball would have the opposite result, dropping both contests in their doubleheader at Fairfield. The Demons could only come up with four hits in Game One and suffered a 9-0 defeat, but they started the second game fast with two runs in the first inning and four in the second.
Unfortunately, the Trojans clawed their way back into the game with a run in the fourth frame and a two-run home run in the fifth. Despite Washington getting an insurance run in the top of the seventh, Fairfield scored three times in the bottom half for a walk-off 8-7 victory.
Senior Conner Leyden had four total hits and three runs scored in the doubleheader as the Demons drop to 2-7 and remain winless in conference play. Both Washington teams next play Thursday evening against Fort Madison.
