The Sigourney Savages edged out the Keota Eagles 3-0 on the softball diamond last night. Behind a three-run home run by freshman Devyn Smallwood, Sigourney remained undefeated in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Senior Josephine Moore pitched a complete game for the Savages and allowed only two hits while also racking up 12 strikeouts. While Sigourney improves to 7-3, Keota falls to 2-3.

The Savages were coming off a pair of losses Saturday in a tournament at Oskaloosa, including an 18-2 defeat at the hands of Chariton in their first contest. Sigourney would trail 4-0 by the time they scored in their second game against the hosting Indians, and they could never come all the way back, falling 9-2.

Sophomore Kia Montgomery led the lineup with a hit and a run batted in against Chariton, while Smallwood smacked another homer and had two RBI against Oskaloosa.

The Savages, ranked 14th in the state in Class 1A, next play tomorrow night at HLV/Tri-County. Meanwhile, Keota also returns to action tomorrow evening against English Valleys.
